Good moving days (Chinese almanac)
Days marked good for moving (移徙 and 入宅) in both the Hong Kong almanac (通勝) and the Taiwan farmer's almanac. Many families also choose a good hour (吉时) and check that the day doesn't clash with their zodiac sign: ask a temple or a fengshui master for your own date.

Almanacs don't all agree, so only days found in both are listed. Good days, weekends and month-end are booked out first: post your moving request 2–3 weeks ahead.
Common Chinese moving-in customs (入伙)
- Fill the rice bucket about 80% full and put a red packet (ang pao) inside.
- Bring the seven necessities (柴米油盐酱醋茶) and a new broom, dustpan and bin tied with red string.
- Switch the lights on (some families leave them on for three days) and open the doors and windows.
- Run the taps, switch on the fans, and boil water or cook something sweet such as tangyuan.
- The owner enters first, at the chosen hour; many families avoid moving in at night.
Malay and Muslim families
Islam has no fixed ritual and no unlucky days for moving house: believing that some days bring bad luck (tathayyur) is discouraged. Recommended practices include saying bismillah and salam when entering, even an empty house, praying for blessings, reciting Surah al-Baqarah and praying two rakaat (Federal Territory Mufti's Office).
